I Am a Run On Sentence

I am a run on sentence

Too many ideas

Too many fragments of me

Running amok

Across the page of my life

No punctuation

No place to pause for breath

Always hurtling onward

Through space

Afraid to stop too long

Hesitant to contemplate

Each phrase on its own

In its separateness

Wary of pausing to

Consider the meaning

The context

The implications

Reluctant  to allow each fragment

To just sit

For a moment

And breathe

    • Thank you– I had started to write the opening sentence down in notebooks all over the house so I wouldn’t forget that I wanted to come back to it and flesh it out. I thought that it was ironically emblematic of the whole poem– fragments of myself were scattered all over the place.
