This piece was inspired by the tales of Rae and Jake.

Time slows down

The moment we touch

The rest of the world drifts away

I am lost in this moment

And there is only the remembering of you

The remembering of us together

I see now that the memories

That have haunted me

In the middle of the night

These many weeks that we

Have been apart

Were just ghostly, pallid things

You are here before me now

And you are technicolor

To my starved eyes

The familiar smell of your warm skin

Is intoxicating as I press

My nose to your neck

The feel of your bare skin

Under my palms

Under my mouth

Pressed against me

Is both homecoming

And the wonder of exploration

For everything that I have

I discover forgotten nuance

Memory had softened the edges

Of what it feels like

To mold ourselves to each other

We have always been

Each other’s

Missing jigsaw pieces

Most fully whole

In the connection of our

Souls, our hearts, our bodies

You sleep peacefully beside me now

All lines and tension in your face

Smoothed away

There is a vulnerability

An openness

To you lying next to me

I let go of everything

That has kept us apart

These long weeks

I lay my head gently, carefully

On your shoulder

You wrap your strong arms around me

Sleepily nuzzle my hair

Murmur words of love

Of how much you have missed me

Missed us

Reminding me that

We have always been

Home to each other
