Petals

you peel back
my layers
slowly
gently
reverently
one
by one
petals of
a zinnia bud
I take
a risk
resist
the instinct
to stay your hand
delicate stirrings
butterfly wings
whisper to me
to trust
to let you closer
allow you
to unfold me
slowly
gently
reverently
Growing hope
that when
you reach my core
we will find
incandescence
we can bathe in
