i am
a woman
built
of words
it is not
natural
comfortable
intuitive
for me
to tie
my tongue
tightly
to choose
silence
to be mute
to opt for
discretion
over
valor
but you yank
syllables
from my
mouth
tie them
into knots
twist them
into
unrecognizable
shapes
hone sharp edges
they did not
originally
contain
accuse them
of drawing
blood

I love the meter and power of this piece so much! Reading it I thought first of national news. So much of what people say and do is misrepresented. Why speak if our words are not honored and left as raw and unframed as they were?
