what to write
what to write
raced through his mind
as he paced back and forth
talk to me
he said out loud
calling to character who might hear him
show yourselves
and they did
as they do to so many authors
humans
in all their ugliness and beauty
their selfishness and cruelty
their kindness and generosity
stepped forward
filling his days
and his nights
showing him what life was about
the mistakes
the missed opportunities
the chances to begin again
so Dickens wrote
and then he wrote some more
believing in the story
believing in Christmas
and because he believed
the world was gifted with
A CHRISTMAS CAROL
and a new meaning of Christmas itself

I’m an artist, a writer, a vegetarian, an animal rights activist, and quite a few other things as well. I love books, cats, philosophy, good conversation, Chicago and the arts. So my blog is full of bits and pieces but it’s the bits and pieces that make life interesting to me. You can read more of my writing at Rethinking Life
