for a woman to say that
in a society that dissects her form
on a daily basis
is a great achievement
we are taught
in every way imaginable
that we are never enough
never just right
never perfect
we are taught
to spend our time
thinking about how we LOOK
rather than thinking about
what we can DO
and what we can ACCOMPLISH
is forced upon us
if we want to get anywhere
in this male dominated culture
we are sidetracked into dedicating
our lives to caring for others
and looking as if we were
eighteen for our entire lives
we are disposable
and have a short shelf life
we are thought
worthy of attention
if we look a certain way
and we are dismissed
and overlooked
if we don’t
our bodies
are life giving
without us
there is nothing
and we have been
brainwashed to believe
that we should apologize
for what we are
by the male establishment
who wouldn’t exist
without us
our bodies are not an apology
our bodies are LIFE itself
we are beautiful

I’m an artist, a writer, a vegetarian, an animal rights activist, and quite a few other things as well. I love books, cats, philosophy, good conversation, Chicago and the arts. So my blog is full of bits and pieces but it’s the bits and pieces that make life interesting to me. You can read more of my writing at Rethinking Life
