Women

are expected to keep secrets

to never tell

never accuse

to seal their lips

hide their bruises

and let men walk away free

after rape

beatings

and psychological

battering

after cheating

after punishing

after threats

and cruelty

women are EXPECTED

to take it

to protect the men who are filled with

hatred and violence

men who destroy the lives

of women and children

but silence won’t save anyone

it won’t stop the brutality

that’s just one more lie women are told

silence really does equal death

death of spirit

of hope

of dreams

and of life itself

part of the reason for their silence

is that the culture in which they live

hates them as well

so they aren’t believed

blamed for what happens to them

and they are forced to go

to other men for help

men who also beat and rape

so many women are literally

prisoners of the system

that likes them

just where they are
