men tell us that women are mad

when they don’t do as they are told

that they’re mad and out of control

when they step out of line

or try to break out of the prison

they have built for them

well I agree

a lot of women are mad

pissed off

enraged at the lives they are forced to live

because of patriarchy

mad about all they are expected to give up

furious about forced dependency

poverty

glass ceilings

violence

being considered prey

constantly having to fight for everything

angry that a government made of males

has anything to say about women’s bodies

and what they do with them

yes

a lot of women are mad

with good reason

we just need to get mad enough

to overthrow our jailers

and those who hunt us
